Seraph

Seraph
________________________________
Dex:   7   Str:  12*  Body:    6
Int:   7   Will:  7   Mind:    7
Infl:  6   Aura:  8   Spirit:  8
Initiative: 20  Hero Points:  45

Powers: *Mystic Link
Omni-Power: 12*
Truesight: 8*

Skills:
Occultist: 6

Bonus: Strength is mystical and unaffected by gravity attacks.

Limitations: Omni-Power represents his ability to intercede with "a higher power" so that he "lends" his powers to him. Before summoning a Power or Skill, he makes a Persuasion attempt using his Infl/Aura against the OV/RF of 7/7. If successful, Seraph then pays the Hero Points for the ability and uses the Power normally.

Advantages: Area Knowledge (Israel); Connections: Global Guardians (High), YHWH (High); Iron Nerves; Popularity (in Israel); Leadership; Scholar (history, Judaism)

Drawbacks: Seriously Irrationally Hated by Muslims; Loss Vulnerability: Like Samson, Strength falls to 4 if his hair is cut.  If Seraph abuses his powers he must also lose his Strength and powers, and his artifacts become useless until he can redeem himself, as on the day of Yom Kippur.

Alter Ego: Chaim Levon
Motivation: Upholding the Good
Occupation: Professor
Wealth: 6

Equipment: *Mystic Linked
SOLOMON'S RING [Body 7, Spirit 10, Recall: 10*, Comprehend Languages: 10*, Teleportation: 16*, Omni-Scholar] Bonus: Recall allows access to Solomon's Wisdom, allowing Seraph to remember facts unknown to him (GM's description).

Moses Staff [Body: 13, Spirit: 10, Mystic Blast: 10, Shape Change: 8*, Earth Control: 7*, Stretching: 3*, Water Control: 13*, Reflection/Deflection: 13*] Limitations: Stretching and Shape Change powers only apply to the staff itself, and Shape Change only allows the staff to assume the shape of a snake. Earth Control represents Seraph's ability to create earthquakes with the staff.

ELIJAH CLOAK [Body: 11, Spirit: 11, Invulnerability: 10*, Sealed Systems: 10*, Systemic Antidote: 11*]

Ed's Notes: This was the one member of the Global Guardians the was not statted out. And if that was intentional, I can see why. Because... Wow. This guy ends up being pretty controversial. Aside from saturated with Religious references...

1) He has a High Connection with YHWH. Aka Yahweh. Aka GOD. (Yes, THE God.)

2) He is so strongly tied to the State of Israel that he is HATED throughout the Muslim World.

So in addition to some pretty heavy handed religious references, he apparently carries a lot of Political baggage as well. Which could be a challenge as a member of the Global Guardians. And this really has only gotten worse (more controversial) over time. I feel like he'd be represented as a bit of a Zionist Anti-Hero if he were brought back today.

First Appearance: Super Friends #7 (October, 1977)

  1. This guy looks like he could be really fun to play in a campaign-- nice variety of powers (and that limitation on his Omni-power is clever!), not *too* powerful overall, and comes with nice limiters and RP hooks for the GM to keep things interesting. We don't see Truesight and Magic Blast very often in writeups, so those powers alone look like they could come in incredibly handy!

    1. He would make for a very interesting mid-to-high level PC. The potential POLITICS involved, if you're running an international campaign could also be interesting. But yeah, a Physical TANK (7/12/11) with Mystical Attacks - who can be fooled by illusions or invisibility? Yeah. He'd be pretty versatile without being over-powered.

  2. There's no P in Samson, as is seen in a word balloon in your chosen illo. Unless you're referring the principal from the Hero High cartoons from 1981. BTW: has anyone statted anyone from there yet?

    1. Thanks for the catch on the typo! (Fixed)

As far as Hero High (1981) goes? Wow... If ANYONE has done them it would be WORG. (lol) So if THEY don't have them, I'm guessing not.

  3. Despite the controversial religious and political overtones I can see this character interact well with the Shazam family, given their connection to Solomon and his wisdom. Also I could see him as an antagonist for Black Adam.
