Ed's Notes: To be honest, I didn't realize that Harvey Hainer was an actual character. (And I'm like the biggest Batman fan I know!) He was included in the Mini-Adventure at the end of the Batman Sourcebook, and I'd assumed that he was just made up for the adventure. (But I was going to include him here anyway, just for fun.) But lo and behold: He's an actual character! And from the look of this picture, he's been around for a while! (Ed.Note: Since 1961, it turns out!)

Mind Blown!

Sgt. Hainer is an older cop, close to retirement who's biggest duty these days is the operation of the Bat Signal. His best days of kicking ass are likely behind him, but like Det. Bullock, he remains one of Gordon's close allies on an largely corrupt police force.

Ed's Notes: Before I talk about the differences between the two sources, I want to give DC a TON of credit for creating this character.  Here you have someone as much connected with patriotism and the military (bordering on jingoism) as Marvel's Captain America, but rather that just glorifying war, (which, yes, there was definitely some of,) in Rock they created a character who was at once tough as nails, while at the same time broken and fragile; weary of the war and just doing his best to complete his mission and keep his men safe. He was Easy Company's "rock" to hang onto in the storm, while at the same time HATING the war and the constant fighting, and never letting his men see how close he was to the edge. I have to give credit to DC for going beyond mere pro-war propaganda with this character, and showing that you can have a character who is an unquestionable badass, while at the same time giving you glimpses that he is not invulnerable and that, in fact, NO MAN is.

The info above is from the BG/R Book's entry.  The differences in the WaW Sourcebook include dropping the Danger Sense Power, lowering his Martial Artist to 7, his Hero Points to 75, raising his Wealth to 3, giving his Grenades an R# of 2 and using completely different statistics for his guns:

Personally, I'm a fan of the BG/R Book's entry, but the WaW might be more realistic.  So, far realism, use the WaW stats, but for a more Comic Book feel, use the BG/R stats, shown above. (Including the possibility for bottomless magazines. lol)
