Foe of: Batman

Ed's Notes: Zsasz is a frustrating yet intriguing character that I've been looking for a write-up for a LONG time now. So I figured I'd take a stab it him myself. One of the problems with him is that like most Batman villains, he's defined by his eccentricities rather than his Skills or Powers. He's more or less just a serial killer. Dangerous, yes, especially with a knife, but more so against ordinary people that against, say... Batman. Batman's main issue is figuring out where he will strike next as opposed to actually overpowering him. (Which... is the case with MOST Batman Villains.) That's FINE, but it doesn't always make for the most interesting write-ups.  I mostly tried to keep him in the same class as Joker, Riddle, Two-Face and Scarecrow, while not putting him quite at the top in any category.

Another frustrating thing about the Character was his "origin story." I HAVE his first appearance. I had just gotten into comics at the time, and Shadow of the Bat had just started up (coinciding with the release of the Batman Returns film.) And I'm reading SotB #1 and they're treating Zsasz like he was a long established character. There were expositional flash backs about his long history of killing, and his MO's: not only of carving the tally of his kills into his skin but of leaving his victims arranged in life-like poses, such as seated around a table eating dinner or relaxing in front of the television. And somehow, he had attracted the interest of the Head Doctor at Arkham who tried to use him in a Hannibal Lecter-like capacity, consulting on other patients and also on the Batman. And it ends up that Zsasz was the one manipulating him the entire time. It was a GOOD story, but I always wanted to see Zsasz IN ACTION!  I wanted to SEE all the stuff they were alluding to in the story! AND IT NEVER HAPPENED! He was assumed to be an established villains IN HIS FIRST APPEARANCE! So disappointing.

In more recent appearances, his seems to have gotten more violent... well, not MORE violent, but more like EXCLUSIVELY violent, at the expense of his more intelligent, manipulative style - much as they've done with Bane as well. In any case, this is my first, hot-take. I'm definitely open to suggestions and feedback to improve it.

Ed's Notes: This is a early version of the character. I was actually looking for the original version of Anarky on Writeups when I found this one. I was never a HUGE fan of the little brat, but I do remember his early appearances, so I figured I bring him over.  I've read that more recently he's grown and taken the mantle of Anarchy... *sigh* DC has done this a LOT lately - taking an established character, retiring them somehow, and then letting another established character take their place - and I'm not a huge fan of the practice. Strikes me as lazy writing. Or maybe I'm just being curmudgeonly. In any case, for now, THIS is the only version of the General I plan to include and if I can find one, I will include the original Anarky as well. Not really a fan of the combined version.

Ed's Notes: I like how the original version of the character could be dropped in as a crazy hitman, monster, crazy-dude killer, or pretty much whatever generic villain you want. The Wrietups entry includes some changes that the more modern version of the Character, which while they make the character
stronger, but not necessarily better:

Powers: Regeneration: 5; Bonus: Regeneration works even after death, making him effectively immortal.

Drawbacks: Serious Irrational Attraction toward causing death, suffering and chaos.

Batman
Black Orchid
Deadman
Detective Chimp
Doctor Mist

Madame Xanadu

Nightmare Nurse

Phantom Stranger
Princess Amaya of House Amethyst
Shade, the Changing Man
Swamp Thing

Ed's Notes: Correct me if I'm wrong, but I find it odd that, in spite of other media using at least some of them, the comics seemingly have yet included Doctor FateDoctor Occult, Jim Corrigan (Spectre), Kid Eternity, Mister E, Sargon or Zatara on the team at some point. (I guess Death and Sandman would be too powerful, but, come on... the Phantom Stranger?!)

Ed's Notes: If you need a Sniper or Hitman that's a bit more disposable than say, Deadshot, Gunhawk is a good choice. He's about as good as Deadshot is with a gun, worse in literally any other way, but very well equipped, for any given situation. His Pistols and Knife are basically always on his person. The Sniper Rifle is for... well, sniper jobs, the Anti-Material Gun for heavier work, the MAC-10's for when its up close and personal and the M-16 for the rare battlefield assignment.

Ed's Notes: This entry comes just about whole cloth from Writeups. I did the usually adaption from Blood of Heroes to Mayfair 3rd Ed that I always do. And I tried to keep in mind that this is the third part of a Character that 's been building off of
Spoiler and then Robin IV. So there were cases (like her Musician Skill) where Writeups would drop something off, but I figured I'd just keep it one, even if at just the same AP level.  Two thign about Writeups... Hoo-boy... They went BATSHIT INSANE with both the CONNECTIONS and the god-damned BATARANGS!  So... I may come back and trim some of the connections. Their philosophy seems to be that you get a low-level (at least) connection with every character you ever appeared with or went on a single mission with. It's too much. I trimmed some of Spoiler's Connections, and I may do the same here. As for the god-damned batarangs... LMAO... OK, so I kept them all, and used the quantities that they did. (Where the fuck does she KEEP them all?!) I did however adjust and SIMPLIFY (and holyfuckinshitballs did they need some simplification!) them, using equivalent gear from either Captain Boomerang or Green Arrow as guidance. But overall, I like this character and while Babs will ALWAYS be Batgirl in MY book, this one could be a lot of fun to play.

Ed's Notes: This is an original entry that leans heavily on the Spoiler #2 and Batgirl V entries in Writeups. Basically, Stats-wise, this is an average of the two entries, usually rounding down, and not adding in any new skills she'd acquired by the time she became Batgirl. Essentially a slightly improved (+1 AP to almost everything, on average) version of Spoiler. I left her Spoiler gear mostly intact, since it was generally better than what Mayfair gave Robin III, but I also threw in anything that she had, figuring she would have inherited it. I also dropped the extra Drawbacks I'd added to Spoiler from her Writeups entry. Figure she'd be over Robin somewhat around the time that she BECAME Robin. Lol

Ed's Notes: This is my favorite Robin. The entry above was lifted almost verbatim from the Writeups.org entry. Her stats are VERY Low, but she came into Batman's partnership with literally NO training, and a costume she picked up at a Halloween Thrift Store. So it's fair that she should be the lowest powered of all the Robins.

I considered giving her Vehicles, but she didn't actually pilot any of the Bat-vehicles so much as tell them where to go while they self-drove. (She did re-program the Bat-copter on the fly though, so that's impressive.) I had to adjust her Science (Computers) skill (since that doesn't EXIST in DCH) into Scientist, Gadgetry and a Scholar advantage. I also left off the Superspeed of 1 they gave her for being a quick study. (Um... NO, that's what Scientist, Gadgetry and a Scholar advantage are for!) Writeups had a lot of extra stuff tied to her slingshot - stuff that was all rated too low to affect gameplay all that much anyway, and which could be accomplished, IMHO, through trick shots. SO this was structured similarly to (although not statted exactly like) Jason Todd's slingshot.

Anyway, this could be a fun challenge to play, and there's a lot of potential as this represents where she was when first coming into Batman's partnership.
