Justice League Dark

The following Characters have at one point or another been associated with the Justice League Dark:

Batman
Black Orchid
Deadman
Detective Chimp
Doctor Mist
Frankenstein
I... Vampire
Jason BloodEtrigan
John Constantine
Kirk Langstrom / Man-Bat
Madame Xanadu
Mindwarp
Nightmare Nurse
Pandora
Phantom Stranger
Princess Amaya of House Amethyst
Shade, the Changing Man
Swamp Thing
Timothy Hunter
Wonder Woman
Zatanna
Zauriel

Ed's Notes: Correct me if I'm wrong, but I find it odd that, in spite of other media using at least some of them, the comics seemingly have yet included Doctor FateDoctor Occult, Jim Corrigan (Spectre), Kid Eternity, Mister E, Sargon or Zatara on the team at some point. (I guess Death and Sandman would be too powerful, but, come on... the Phantom Stranger?!)

Ed's Notes: A voodoo crime boss in New York. That's about ass badass as you get at the street/city level. Be sure to check out his zombies!

BTW... The Hero Point costs for his rituals in the Magic Sourcebook looked all wrong. I've recalculated them, according to the rules set forth in that same book.  Please feel free to check my math and let me know if you think I've miscalculated.

Powers:
Sorcery: 17

Skills:
Occultist: 10

Limitations: Must speak all of his spells out loud and in backwards English.

Advantages: Connections: All-Star Squadron (High), Earth's Mystical Community (High), Zatanna (High); Magic Background

Drawbacks: Magician's Code

Alter Ego: Giovanni (John) Zatara
Motivation: Upholding the Good
Occupation: Stage Magician
Wealth: 4

Source: Magic Sourcebook, page 87; World at War Sourcebook, page 66

Ed's Notes: Another member of Earth's Mystical Community that dated all the way back to the Golden Age.  He's Zatanna's father, but if active in the 1940's would be old enough to be her great grandfather to a 20-something Zatanna today.  (Yeah, melding the Golden and Modern ages can be weird.)

The WaW Sourcebook does not include the Magic Background Advantage or the Magician's Code Drawback, as both were introduced in the Magic Sourcebook. It also omitted his All-Star Squadron Connection, which is weird, because they would be long since disbanded in the modern era that the Magic Sourcebook stats him out for. That really only makes sense in a WaW (Goden Age) setting. Obviously WaW leaves out his Connection to Zatanna as well, as she wouldn't be born yet for many decades. Lol.

Ed's Notes: Mother of Mercury, and a friend of John Constantine's. I have to admit... I'm having trouble finding information on the "Heart of Gold." Is this an artifact? Why is it capitalized? Is it LITERALLY her heart now? Why aren't the attributes italicized?  Gonna be honest, Hellblazer fans... I could used some input on this one!

Ed's Notes: A wandering, teenaged friend of John Constantine's. Seems like a Natural NPC to use to get things kicked of with a Mystical Campaign. "John! I've just received the WORST vision!" Cliche, perhaps, but right on the nose, no? Lol

BTW... If the Greco/Roman GOD Mercury was ever written up, that would make THREE "Mercury's," including the Metal Man!

Also... "13" is a very strange number of Hero Points for an established/published character to have. Usually it's a multiple of 5. Significance, maybe?

Powers:
Dispersal: 8
Flight: 12
Superspeed: 18

Skills:
Acrobatics (Dodging): 11
Artist (Photography): 4
Detective: 3

Limitations: Miscellaneous: Johnny must say the formula "3X2(9YZ)4A" out loud to begin using his Superspeed, and the formula "Z25(2AB06) to stop using his Superspeed.

Advantages: Buddy (Tubby Watts); Connections:  All-Star Squadron (High), Sees All Tells All News (High); Lightning Reflexes

Drawbacks: Married (Liberty Belle, after the spring of 1942); Secret Identity

Alter Ego: John Chambers

Motivation: Thrill of Adventure
Occupation: Newsreal Cameraman
Wealth: 4

Source: 2nd Edition Background/Roster Book, page 346 World at War Sourcebook, pages 57-58

Ed's Notes: First a point of clarification: This is the Golden Age Hero, Johnny Quick, not the Johnny Quick from the Anti-Matter Universe / Crime Syndicate. (Who is actually an evil version of Barry Allen's Flash anyway.) And let's get a second point out of the way up front: Yes, this is a poor man's Flash.

The entry above is a Combination of both sources, taking the best of each. The BG/R Book's main flaw is that it gives him the Running Power instead of Superspeed. Lame. On a FAR lesser note, it also leaves off his Buddy Advatgae.  The WaW Sourcebook only gives him 45 Hero Points, leaves off His Dodging Skill and his All-Star Squadron Connection.  Overall, the WaW version is the better one, but I feel like this entry is still fair.

Ed's Notes: How in the almighty fires of HELL do you look at this character, get to know his history and think, "You know who would make a kick-ass John Constantine?" KEANU FUCKING REEVES?!  Ugh.  All in all, Constantine was not the WORST Superhero Movie ever made (Fant4stic, Ghost Rider, Batman and Robin, STEEL? Yeah, I'm looking at YOU.) Yeah, it wasn't THAT bad, but it was far and away the worst DC adaptation, post Batman & Robin/Steel. And Tilda Swinton's Gabriel and Peter Stormare's Lucifer we arguably pretty good! But the narrative was directionless, and Keanu Reeves was particularly awful in the role. Horribly miscast, and mailing in one of his most cardboard preferences to date.  How can he be so good in the Matrix, Bill and Ted, and Speed, playing three very different characters, and be so irredeemably awful in Dracula, Walk in the Clouds and Constantine? I'd say he's just a shitty actor, but that's unfair, given that we've seen him do some really iconic work. Gah. Frustrating.

Hopefully, we'll see a re-boot of the character at some point in the new cinematic DCU.

The Magic Sourcebook added only the Hypnosis Power and the Magic Background Advantage to his entry in the BG/R Book and ST Sourcebook.
